Modern Band, a class taught by Edward Wilson, has gone to the next level, adding a Modern Band II to the course selection guide. The first running of this class will be in the second quarter, period 2. This second iteration of Modern Band will include more detailed polishing of songs and a concert at the end of the quarter. “It will start with a refresher, then we’ll start working on one song per week, then end with a concert.” said Wilson.
Since the new class will be going into more detail with the songs, it might seem hard for some people. “I fear my biggest challenge will be playing with new members.” said Cameron White. Because some students are taking Modern Band I this quarter, they would be able to join Modern Band II when it starts next quarter, because they would have completed the prerequisite.
Wilson also has some concerns for the class, with the limited time and the limits of being in the new school schedule. He said, “Getting all the parts covered will definitely be a challenge.” In Modern Band, almost nobody wanted to sing. “I do think modern band 2 is a good idea; however, I believe it should be a club/after-school extra activity, for example, concert band and jazz band”, said White, implying we could have more time if the course were extracurricular.
Students enrolled in the course do seem to look forward to it. “I am very excited for modern band 2.” said White. Wilson plans on giving students the freedom to choose the songs They will perform in the concert. “The students are great and the music is fun… We will be getting to go into more detail with the songs.” said Wilson.
All in all, Modern Band II is a new class whose target audience is people who are determined to perform music in a non-traditional band, like a concert band, and it may even inspire some people to do this as their career.
