The FFA club held an Agriculture Night alongside the Mini-Thon Paint War before the football game at Big Spring on Sept 12. as an attempt to help raise money and bring more people to the Paint War to support Mini-Thon. The event had a petting zoo with many different farm animals and also sold milkshakes.
Morgan Bear, high school agriculture teacher, said, “The AG Night was held to benefit the community.” She explains that people could go around and engage with the animals and each time they would interact with a different animal, they would get a stamp. The person with the most stamps got to put their name into a raffle.
This event was centered around the middle school FFA, so middle school students in FFA could bring animals. There were goats, bunnies, pigs, lambs, and a donkey at the petting zoo. The milkshakes sold at every football game raise money for FFA as well. The AG Night was a success, bringing more people to the paint war and the football game to support Mini-Thon.
The Paint War itself raised $2,030.80 for Mini-Thon. All the money made went to Four Diamonds, which covers 100% of all medical expenses related to cancer care not covered by insurance for eligible Four Diamonds children. Kelsey Hernjak, advisor of Mini-THON club, said, “The paint war went very well this year. We had three “mini” paint wars, one for elementary, middle, and high school. This year, the high school students also received water blasters that were filled with paint and water.”
Mini-Thon will take place at the high school on April 18.
