Adam McKeehan, new English teacher, is now hosting theater club at the high school on Fridays during B flex for aspiring actors. The club has been running at the school since McKeehan was a student at Big Spring, but this is a new role for McKeehan as the advisor.
McKeehan said, “It has been around as long as I can remember. I went to high school here, and the theater club had already existed. It has changed over the past 5 years. It used to be called acting club, but I changed it back. Ms. Schenk was the previous advisor, but we agreed that I should be the advisor instead.”
Last Friday, the theater club did a few activities to help their acting skills, like counting to 20 without trying to say the numbers at the same time, lying on the floor while someone tries to get their peers to laugh, etc.
There are currently 13 members of the theater club. “I wanted to hang out with like-minded people. I enjoy the environment there.”
Reyna Lascurain, club member, said.
“We plan on strengthening skills, learning how to become more comfortable with performing and presenting in front of others, and we do that by playing a variety of acting games and improv activities that are really fun.” McKeehan said.
Not only is McKeehan the advisor for the theater club, but he is also the director of the musicals at the high school. He directed the 2025 production “The Little Mermaid” and will be directing the next production, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” in 2026.
