With spring fast approaching, it is time once again for another exciting musical production, and this year, Big Spring High School is showcasing “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Musical,” opening its doors this March for all to see. It is the classic story of a boy who discovers his true worth thanks to a chocolaty world of pure imagination. Directed by Adam McKeehan, students across middle and high schools sing, dance, and play iconic roles such as protagonist Charlie Bucket played by Delaney Foreman (eighth grade) or the eccentric Willy Wonka, played by Jack Brozik (senior).
McKeehan has deeply encouraged all to come see the musical, praising his actors immense dedication, along with assuring, “It’s something everyone can enjoy,” and calling it the ”One opportunity to see students perform something they worked so hard on.” Actor, Jack Brozik, has encouraged all to come see his performance, stating, “It’s been a long, sometimes tedious process. Seeing everything come together towards the end is always a blessing.”
Amidst the over three month process of creating the musical, the production of it has been a challenging process, “The job naturally has a lot of responsibility.” said McKeehan in a candid interview about the musical. “Making sure that we have all the set pieces, props, and costumes required by the script all created by the time the show rolls around, is an ongoing process.” The actors agree it takes a lot of work to put on a great show. Actor, Rhys Griffith shared, “It’s mostly been smooth, but nailing timings and lengths of certain lines can be difficult.”
Various staff and students across the school plan to attend the musical. Ashley Oldham, a Spanish teacher in the high school, plans to bring her family to see it. She said, ”[It’s] getting to see my students outside of the classroom doing things they love.”
The musical is set to play mid-March, with show dates available on 12, 13, 14, at 7pm, and March 15 at 2p.m. Tickets are available both at the door and online for adults ($15) and students/elderly ($12).
