Midway Skating Rink, a place which holds many memories for members of this community, is closing its doors on April 15, due to the lack of attendance and profits being made at the venue. Jay Mowery, one of the partners of Midway Skating, is selling the property for one million dollars. His daughter, Ava Mowery, who attends Big Spring High School,  said, “Not a lot of people come skating as much as they used to, and the younger generation doesn’t want to go skating.”

Midway Skating will be sold to Savco LLC of Lemoyne. Midway Skating rink has been around for many decades.  Denise Mansco, librarian, said the reason Midway is closing is not a lot of people are interested in skating because they are either playing video games or they are busy. “The younger generation doesn’t really want to go Skating anymore but the older generation does not want the skating rink to close.” A student at Big Spring, Jena Massaro, said, “I used to go skating a lot but now I’m busy with school, and I don’t think kids don’t want to go Skating anymore because most kids are busy with school and sports and adults are too busy with work and they don’t have time to drive them to places.”

Alexis Mearkle, freshmen, said, “When I was little a lot of people use to go skating all the time, but sadly not a lot of people are not going skating anymore. They might be busy or they have other things to do. Also some kids are not interested in skating they are texting and playing video games. Not a lot of people are skating because of that. I would also like to add, if I owned the company I would try to sell it was well.”
